In 2003 former Chilean President, Ricardo Lagos stated that "No hay
maņana sin ayer" (there is no tomorrow without yesterday) thus
inviting the Chilean society to remember its recent historical and
traumatic past.
We fully support his statement and believe that Chilean
communities scattered around the globe should also join in this
collective process. As members of a community that emerged in the San
Francisco Bay Area as a direct consequence of the political situation in
Chile in the 70s, we believe we must also rescue and construct our own
collective memory set forth in Northern California.
Our proyect, "Exile: 30 years later..." is a 3-day event that will include photo, video and
art exhibitions, as well as a musical concert that will reunite three of the Bay Area's most
emblematic Chilean music ensembles of the late 70s and 80s.
**This 3-day event will run
at a cost of $7,000 and we are asking for your
financial contribution. Although we have received partial support from
the government of Chile, and La Peņa Cultural Center, we do need additional funds to reach our goal**.
